Sawai Madhopur District is a district of Rajasthan State in western part of India established back in 1977, it has been divided into 8 revenue sub-divisions and tehsils namely- Sawai Madhopur, Choth ka Barwara, Khandar, Bonli, Malarna Dungar, Gangapur City, Vazirpur and Bamanwas. The Sawai Madhopur is chief town of the district. In 2006 Ministry of Panchayati Raj named Sawai Madhopur one of the country’s 250 most backward districts. It is one of the twelve districts in Rajasthan currently receiving funds from the Backward Regions Grant Fund Program. The region been one of the backward regions of country has few tourist attractions like Ranthambore National Park, Ranthambore Fort, Rajiv Gandhi Regional Museum and Khandar Fort. The literacy rate in district is 66% with a very few schools and colleges available for imparting quality higher education.
