Kota formerly known as Kotha, is 25th largest district, located 240 kilometers (149 mi) from Jaipur, situated on bank of Chambal River. Kota has number of engineering and medical entrance exam institutes, as a reason it has been nicked as “Education City of India”. Apart from these district is also famous for its palaces and gardens. The city of Kota is a part of Hadoti region of Rajasthan, the land of Hadas. The historical places and temples are getting surrounded by the sigs of modern development. It is also an industrial hub of northern India, with the number of chemical, engineering and power plants based within the district. The best time to visit Kota is between late November until last week of February , as mild winter starts during this period, where temperature been 25 degrees maximum and 12 degrees minimum. Kota has attractions known for its historic significance which includes City Fort Palace, Jagmandir Palace, Rao Madho Singh Museum and Kota Government Museum. The district of Kota is also known for its availability of special stone, same is named as Kota Stone. It is a fine-grained variety of limestone. Kota Stone are tough, non water-absorbent, non slippery and non-porous. Kota has five major universities within district; major among them is University of Kota operating with largest Government College of Kota. Apart from this Kota also has one Government medical College, one Private Dental College, one Physiotherapy College, 15 general colleges and number of MBA Institutes. District is well connected with neighboring districts and major cities outside state through road and rail transport. Daily buses carry passengers inter-state as well as within city with help of 3 bus stations. Kota is an important railway station on the Delhi-Mumbai main line, has number of Fast, Super Fast and Express trains halt for around 100 trains.
